Gary Bloomer is known as “The Direct Response Marketing Guy.” He has a simple marketing philosophy: marketing should have a positive effect on the buyer by solving a problem, and a positive effect on the seller by increasing profits. Here’s what he has to say about Charlie Seymour Jr., who, along with his partner Dr. Marc Kossmann, has written a new book entitled Hey, You…Don’t Stand Out – Get Out!.
I've been a member of GKIC-Philly for about 18 months and from the beginning, Charlie Seymour Jr. stood out. Friendly, knowledgeable, out-going, and larger-than-life, Charlie's always entertaining and the epitome of the marketing professional. Charlie's been there for me when others could not or would not help. He's been a personal supporter, and an advocate, and an advisor.
When Charlie speaks, people tend to shut the hell up and LISTEN! And why might this be? Because unlike a good many "experts," Charlie knows what the heck he's talking about.
Recently, his advice turned my first foray into online video from an overly long, needlessly plodding snooze-fest into a shorter, tighter, and a far more visually compelling production. In business and marketing, it's not easy to read the label when you're inside the bottle and there are times when I've been convinced that Charlie's blessed with x-ray vision.
If you're not sure about a marketing issue, if you need a second opinion, or, indeed, a FIRST opinion, stop! Take stock, and listen to Charlie Seymour Jr. Trust me, you'll thank me for this one day.
Gary believes that direct response marketing revolves around the relationship between a buyer and a seller. That it’s all about solving a need the buyer has. It is NOT about you as a seller.
A relationship between a buyer and seller takes time to develop, and, according to Gary, trust is the glue that holds the relationship together.
Gary’s also a great believer in social media. When it comes to Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, he wants you to stop thinking that you don’t have time to participate in those sites, and start thinking of investing your time for a potential return.
Gary believes the social media sites are a great place to begin building relationships. Start following someone you admire, a writer, say, and let them know how you feel. If you’d like to market to other followers of the writer, you have easy access to them.
Twitter posts can help steer people toward your book’s Amazon page, or your store’s street address, or your homepage. The sky’s the limit and the only thing holding you back is your own imagination.
